An Artist's Own Luxury Vermont Retreat
In 1971, a young man of limited means but unlimited immagination bought one acre of land from a cousin - William Mundell, the Poet Lauriet of Vermont appointed after Robert Frost.
That summer, he cleared land, poured a cement pad, then built a chimney. On Christmas eve, in the dark, he walked to this chimney, shoveled off three feet of snow, built a fire and poured himself a glass of wine. While he sat on a log, he made himself a promise. "One day, I'll have a proper house house here."
The house as you see it today is the result of his education as an artist and an architect, then a career designing for some of the wealthiest people on the West Coast and in Latin and South America. His exposure to architectural and artistic styles through extensive international travel, as well as his own artistic endevors in fine arts, decorative painting, stone, metal work and furniture making have led to this design - not to mention the procurement and creation of the architectural artifacts, art, custom furnishings and antiques that surround you.
It is the feeling in this house that people respond to, and that feeling is directly attributable to the remarkable individual who dreamed the dream so many years ago and made it real.
While he is gone, his partner-wife presently owns this house, some 44 years after he dreamed his dream. She worked with him every day for eighteen years, as they designed for others and completed this property. While her professional specialty is reserach and strategy, she has long incorporated luxury lifestyle practices, cooking and wellness research into her passionate passtimes. In addition to Adams Hill House, she heads The Cancer Alternative, a nutrition-based cancer-recovery research Foundation and Wellness Center. Rentals of Adams Hill House contribute to the services provided by these entities.
She offers the enjoyment of this property as a way of sharing his legacy.
Ms. Shaw has created a timeless, casual-luxury experience for her visitors to this property that seem to strike a cord with those who have the means to live well in the old way.
Her extended family in Scoland offers a large family estate with a similar ambiance for your business or family event - Novar Estate in Ross-shire. We encourage you to have a look at their web site and enjoy this beautiful ancestral home when next you are in the UK.
